Pre-K Program: Children Age 4

Our PreK Program provides a caring environment for children to feel welcomed and inspired to learn and play creatively. The learning environment is arranged into units and seasonal themes. The units and themes provide opportunities to further develop fine motor skills, to learn how to follow directions, problem solve, and to work with others in and out of class. An example of a unit is Behind My Garden Fence.  Children explore aspects of harvest, how fruits & vegetables grow, size discrimination, sorting and ordering, counting, finger-play rhymes, painting and printing with vegetables. Each child creates their own published book to bring home to share.

Revolving learning centers based on themes allows students to explore freely and work with a variety of materials and media set out daily. Each child is provided with opportunities to create, experiment and discover through their own learning experiences. Examples of the centers include: Fire & Rescue Station, Native American Wigwam, the Post Office, Restaurant, Castles & Kingdoms and Get-Well Clinic for Our Pets.

Creative expression is encouraged and fostered through art, music, poetry, role-playing, puppetry and storytelling. Children learn the importance of caring for themselves, their school and nature. Play is regarded as a vital element for strengthening the social and emotional well being of each child. Being able to speak in front of a small group is encouraged at circle to help build a stronger confidence, vocabulary and community. At circle, children learn the importance of listening to one another. In class, they are exposed to letters and their sounds, numbers and rhyming. They learn to recognize and how to write their first and last name, learn about animal habitats, different cultures and observe seasonal changes in the weather.  Cognitive skills include letter and number recognition, sorting, classifying, counting, patterning and sequencing. Exposure and mastery of fine and gross motor skills is also an important part of this program.

Offered: Five-day program, Monday through Friday, 8:15 AM-1:00 PM.
